Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters
Good Shepherd participates in Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters Campaign each year, when we write letters to our congressional representatives urging them to support various nutrition programs. Learn more about Bread for the World here.
Good Shepherd helps to support the work of Pastor Kristin Engstrom, the coordinator of the Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program through the ELCA in Senegal. You can learn more about Pastor Kristin and her work through the YAGM Senegal website.
ELCA World Hunger
Good Shepherd supports this program with various fundraisers during the year, including our Giving Tree in November and December. The work of this amazing program focuses on long-term, sustainable solutions that get at the root causes of hunger and poverty, all in the spirit and practice of accompaniment. Learn more here.
On the first Sunday of every month, Good Shepherd holds a fair trade sale with food items through Equal Exchange that we are able to offer at wholesale prices. Each sale supports the work of small-scale farmers around the world. Items for sale include chocolate, coffee, tea, olive oil, nuts and dried fruit. Learn more about Equal Exchange here.
Florence Nightingale Global Health
Good Shepherd collects donations throughout the year to support the work of FNGH in the Philippines. Aside from monetary contributions, we have collected soap, books, toothbrushes, and packets of tuna. Learn more here.
Members and friends of Good Shepherd financially help to support this program in southern India, which is run by the Betsy Elizabeth Trust, in partnership with Help Kids India. The Crèche provides education, food, clothing and medical treatment for 50 children ages three to five years old. Their families also receive assistance with health practices and job skill training.
Lutheran Disaster Response
Donations are collected throughout the year, as needed, to assist victims of natural and man-made disasters. Learn more about Lutheran Disaster Response here.
Lutheran World Relief Quilts and Kits
A small but dedicated group meets weekly to sew quilts that will be shipped around the world by LWR as needed. During Lent, Good Shepherd members and friends donate items needed to make personal care kits, and help to assemble the kits on Palm Sunday. The quilts and kits are given to people who have been affected by natural disasters and displacement due to violence. Learn more about Lutheran World Relief here.
