Dear Senator ____________,
At least since the end of WW II, the U.S. has been a global leader in support for people affected by war, famine, and natural disaster. I write to urge you to become an original co-sponsor of the bipartisan Collins-Coons Global Nutrition Resolution, which will be introduced in the coming weeks by Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Chris Coons (D-Del.). This resolution parallels a similar bipartisan resolution in the House and will recognize the importance of continued U.S. leadership to accelerate global progress against maternal and child malnutrition. The bipartisan resolution recognizes the progress made against malnutrition due to strong U.S. leadership, but more needs to be done if we are going to eliminate malnutrition.
Almost half of all child deaths worldwide are linked to malnutrition. The children who survive remain at high risk of irreversible stunting, which affects their physical and cognitive development. My faith calls me to have compassion and stand alongside women and children around the world. I urge you to affirm our nation’s commitment to, and investment in, efforts to advance global nutrition by reaching out to Sens. Collins and Coons and asking to become an original co-sponsor of the Global Nutrition Resolution.
