One thing we all share is the need for belonging. The story that comes to mind in Scripture is when Jesus meets Zacchaeus in Luke 19. Maybe you have encountered that story before.
Jesus comes into Jericho and a man who is vertically challenged named Zacchaeus knows that, if he is going to catch a glimpse of Jesus, he will need to get up above the crowd. So he climbs up a sycamore tree. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Not so much! Jesus looks up into the tree, sees him, and invites him to come down. He says to Zacchaeus: “Hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.”
Zacchaeus was a wealthy man, but the fact that he found belonging in Jesus was worth more than all the money in the world. Jesus needed him and he needed Jesus.
What I think you will find at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is belonging. You’ll hear the stories of a Lord in whose sight you are precious. You’ll meet people who value who you are, the God given gifts you have to share, and who will walk with you through all the ups and downs of life.
Come, and catch a glimpse of Jesus as we worship the Lord in spirit and truth. But more than that, come and be drawn into a community of believers who will not leave you feeling as a stranger, but will welcome you into the Lord’s family, where you truly feel you belong.
I can’t wait ‘til you “come down” to Fisher Road in Brevard and experience what it means to belong.
Yours In Christ,
Pastor Ken Albright
